Allie's story with pics |
|
This is Allie the day she came to live with us
On Fri 8/22 my husband wanted to clean up around the bird cages and since Allie is deathly afraid of our mop he put her on our screened lanai while he cleaned up. We had just experienced Tropical Storm Fay and were still getting some high winds and severe thunder/lightening showers
but it was calm at the moment he put her outside. Our lanai is screened and has one side attached to the house, a front door and a back door down a hallway. Hubby wasn't thinking and stepped out onto the lanai to put the mop there to dry and Allie spooked and flew up into the screen above the back door and it gave way and she flew away, here is a pic of the area, the screen let loose from the bottom and along the sides
It stormed all day off and on and part of the next day, I looked everywhere, finally after some good advice from Kim, an experienced bird friend on Sun 8 24 I looked toward the north of my house and found her, here are the pics of the tree,
this is about where I found her in the tree, we had to get a 16 foot extention ladder and I had to go to the top put one foot on a branch and lean up as far as I could to get her
this is a pic of the tree standing on my front door step looking across the steet, the tree she was in is marked, it's the one in the distance behind the palm, it's top is visible from my front door step and she could probably see us everytime we went out the front door.
Just a few pics for reference, I could not see her just scanning the tree it was too heavily leaved, she was calling and I had to actually go and look from the trunk up into the tree to see her, I went out early when she would normally be having her breakfast and as I walked this treeline when I went too far to the right of the tree she screamed and when I went too far to the left she screamed until I finally figured out which tree it was.
And this is my girl after I brought her home she was hungry and happy
She has found her voice, she has been with me for about 3 months now and hadn't said much but since I found her she has vocalized with me everyday.

That is some sort of miracle, Sue. And you bet Allie knows who mom is now and is going to chat you up every chance she gets!

Wow, that is one HUGE tree. I am sooo glad that you found her, I was praying for you guys.
Amazing how something so wonderful as Allie now talking to you and trusting you more came out of such tragedy. I truly believe that she now KNOWS you will be there for her and are truly trying to help her.
